East End Crossing: Traffic Alerts & Blasting Schedule March 14

Kentucky: Springdale Road closed April 7-11: Springdale Road, in the vicinity of Wolf Pen Branch Road and Clipping Cross Road, will be closed for 96 hours beginning April 7, 2014 at 9 a.m. This closure is required so that a new Springdale Road and Wolf Pen Branch road intersection can be constructed. A detour will be set-up for motorists who need to drive along this roadway.
Kentucky: Wolf Pen Branch Road restricted to one-lane of traffic beginning April 7: East and west-bound traffic on Wolf Pen Branch Road, in the vicinity of Springdale Road to Old Creek Way, will be restricted to one lane of traffic beginning Monday, April 7, 2014. This arrangement will likely continue for 6 months. Alternating bi-directional traffic will be maintained and regulated by traffic lights during this time.

Kentucky: Blasting schedule for week of March 17: Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841 during the week of March 17.

•    Tunnel Blasting: Underground tunnel blasting, which began Jan. 27, 2014, in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, does NOT require traffic stops. This blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.
•    The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting will be:
o Monday, March 17, at about 7:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
o Tuesday, March 18, at about 7:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
o Thursday, March 20, at about 7:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
o Friday, March 21, at about 7:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.
 

Surface Blasting:  Surface blasting, which began in June 2013, does require traffic stops. Surface blasting also takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard. In the event of unfavorable weather or other unforeseen activities, blast times may occasionally change.
•     The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:
o Monday, March 17, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.
o Tuesday, March 18, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.
o Wednesday, March 19, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.
o Thursday, March 20, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.
o Friday, March 21, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.
o Saturday, March 22, at about 11 a.m. 

•    In addition to the tunnel and surface blasting taking place at the intersection of KY 841 and U.S. 42, surface blasting will take place at the north portal of the tunnel. The north portal is located in the vicinity of Shadow Wood Lane and Shadow Wood Drive. There will be no traffic stops for this blast.
•      The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:
o Tuesday, March 18, at about 2 p.m.
o Wednesday, March 19, at about 2 p.m.
o Thursday, March 20, at about 2 p.m.
o Friday, March 21, at about 2 p.m

NOTE: A message will be posted on the project website at www.kyinbridges.com Thursday of each week regarding the anticipated blasting schedule for the following week. Pre-blast surveys are ongoing; no blasting will occur within 500 feet of any residence prior to the completion of a pre-blast survey for that residence.

Indiana: Blasting schedule for week of March 17: Blasting to prepare for the East End Crossing is scheduled to occur in Indiana, just east of Utica, between the Ohio River and Salem Road during the week of March 17. There will NOT be any traffic stops for this blast.
•    The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:
o    Monday, March 10, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m.
o    Tuesday, March 11, at about 411:30 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m.
o    Wednesday, March 12, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m.
o    Thursday, March 13, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m.
o    Friday, March 14, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m.
