LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 9, 2014) – The following closures and lane restrictions are expected the rest of this week and next week in connection with construction on the Downtown Crossing:

Work Currently Underway:

Louisville Streets:

•    Frankfort Avenue between Story Avenue and River Road is scheduled to be closed through Friday, May 23 for demolition work. Local access will be available between Story Avenue and Washington Street.

•    Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 17 to set beams.

•    One lane of Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 10 to set beams.

•    One lane of Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

•    Two lanes of Main Street between Hancock Street and Jackson Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

•    Two lanes of Market Street between Preston Street and Floyd Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

Kentucky Side:

Work scheduled to begin Friday, May 9:

•    The ramp from I-65 North to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to close overnight Friday, May 9 for restriping. It’s expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

•    The ramp from Liberty Street/Preston Street/Muhammad Ali Boulevard to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Friday, May 9 for restriping. It’s expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

•    Two lanes of I-65 North from the Brook Street exit to the I-64 split are scheduled to close overnight Friday, May 9 for restriping. They’re expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

•    The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 for overhead bridge work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days. A signed detour will be in place.

•    One lane of I-64 East from 9th Street to I-65 is scheduled to close Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 for overhead bridge work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days.

Work Scheduled for Next Week:

Kentucky Side:

Work scheduled to begin Sunday, May 11:

•    The left lane of I-65 North from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Witherspoon Street is scheduled to close Sunday, May 11 to allow crews to work between I-65 North and I-65 South.  This will be a long-term closure, in place into 2015.

•    Two lanes of I-65 North from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Witherspoon Street are scheduled to close Sunday, May 11 for restriping. They’re expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 3 a.m.

•    The ramp from I-65 North to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to close overnight Sunday, May 11 for restriping. It’s expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

•    The ramp from Liberty Street/Preston Street/Muhammad Ali Boulevard to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Sunday, May 11 for restriping. It’s expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.


Work scheduled to begin Monday, May 12:

•    The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Monday, May 12-Friday, May 16 for bridge decking. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

•    One lane of I-64 East from 9th Street to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Monday, May 12-Friday, May 16 for bridge decking. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

•    The left lane of I-65 South from Witherspoon Street to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to be closed overnight Monday, May 12 for pile driving. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 13:

•    One lane of I-71 South from Beargrass Creek to I-64 is scheduled to be closed overnight Tuesday, May 13-Saturday, May 17 for pile driving. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 14:

•    One lane of the ramp from I-65 South to Jefferson Street is scheduled to be closed Wednesday, May 14-Friday, May 16 for restriping. Drivers will still be able to access both Jefferson Street and Brook Street. A full weekend closure of the ramp follows.

•    One lane of I-65 South from Witherspoon Street to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday, May 14 to install barrier wall. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Work scheduled for Thursday, May 15:

•    Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, May 15 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Work scheduled to begin Friday, May 16:

•    The ramp from I-65 South to Jefferson Street is scheduled to be closed Friday, May 16-Sunday, May 18 for restriping. It’s expected to close around 7 p.m. on Friday and reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, May 19. A signed detour will be in place.

Louisville Streets:

Work scheduled to begin Sunday, May 11:

•    One lane of Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed Sunday, May 11-Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

Indiana Side:

Work scheduled for Monday, May 12:

•    Court Avenue between Broadway Street and Indiana Avenue is scheduled to be closed overnight Monday, May 12 to set beams. It’s expected to close around midnight and reopen by 5 a.m.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

•    The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through the spring of 2016.

•    The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

•    Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.

•    7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.

•    VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.
                                                                                                     
•    US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.

•    US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane.  Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.

•    The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.

•    Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It’s expected to remain closed into July 2014.

•    Lane restrictions are in place on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane on US 31 South and US 31 North from just south of Court Avenue to the bridge. The restrictions are expected to be in place until early July, when the Clark Memorial Bridge is scheduled to close for about six weeks.

•    9th Street from Indiana Avenue to just west of I-65 is closed for storm sewer work. It’s expected to remain closed into May.

•    Drivers on I-65 North taking Exit 0 into downtown Jeffersonville will not be able to turn left onto Court Avenue because of ongoing road work in the area. The change is expected to be in place about two weeks. A signed detour is in place.


The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur. Also, given the aggressive overall construction schedule for the project, Walsh DBT may shift work schedules when opportunities arise.
