LOUISVILLE, Ky. (NEWS RELEASE) – The following closures and lane restrictions are expected this week in connection with construction on the Downtown Crossing:

Work Currently Underway:

Louisville Streets:

•    Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Wednesday, April 30 to set beams.

•    Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed through Wednesday, April 30 to set beams.

•    Frankfort Avenue between Story Avenue and River Road is scheduled to be closed through Thursday, May 1 for demolition work. Local access will be available between Story Avenue and Washington Street.

•    Two lanes of Main Street between Hancock Street and Jackson Street are scheduled to be closed through Wednesday, April 30 for bridge work.

•    The right lane of Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

•    The right lane of eastbound Market Street from Preston Street to Floyd Street is scheduled to be closed through Thursday, May 1 to deliver beams.

Work Scheduled for This Week:

Kentucky Side:

Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 29:

•    The ramp from Story Avenue to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, April 29-Thursday, May 1 for demolition work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

•    The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, April 29-Thursday, May 1 for overhead bridge work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

•    One lane of I-71 South from just east of Frankfort Avenue to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, April 29-Thursday, May 1 for demolition work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

•    One lane of I-64 West from the Story Avenue ramp to I-71 South is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, April 29-Thursday, May 1 for demolition work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

•    One lane of I-64 East from 9th Street to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, April 29-Thursday, May 1 for overhead bridge work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

•    Rolling closures are expected on I-64 West from the Story Avenue ramp to I-71 South overnight Tuesday, April 29-Thursday, May 1 for demolition work. The rolling closures are expected 9 p.m.-5 a.m.

Work scheduled for Thursday, May 1:

•    Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, May 1 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Louisville Streets:

Work scheduled for Thursday, May 1:

•    Liberty Street between Floyd Street and Preston Street is scheduled to be closed early Thursday, May 1 for a deck pour. It’s expected to close around 4 a.m. and reopen by 8 a.m.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

•    The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through the spring of 2016.

•    The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

•    Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.

•    7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.

•    VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.
                                                                                                     
•    US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.

•    US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane.  Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.

•    The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.

•    Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It’s expected to remain closed into July 2014.

•    Lane restrictions are in place on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane on US 31 South and US 31 North from just south of Court Avenue to the bridge. The restrictions are expected to be in place until mid-June, when the Clark Memorial Bridge is scheduled to close for about six weeks.

•    9th Street from Indiana Avenue to just west of I-65 is closed for storm sewer work. It’s expected to remain closed into May.


The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur. Also, given the aggressive overall construction schedule for the project, Walsh DBT may shift work schedules when opportunities arise.
