LOUISVILLE, Ky. (NEWS RELEASE) – The following closures and lane restrictions are expected this week in connection with construction on the Downtown Crossing:

Work Currently Underway:

Louisville Streets:

•    Frankfort Avenue between Story Avenue and River Road is scheduled to be closed through Friday, May 23 for demolition work. Local access will be available between Story Avenue and Washington Street.

•    Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 17 to set beams.

•    One lane of Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 10 to set beams.

•    One lane of Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

•    Two lanes of Main Street between Hancock Street and Jackson Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

•    Two lanes of Market Street between Preston Street and Floyd Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

•    One lane of Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 to set beams.

Work Scheduled for This Week:

Kentucky Side:

Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 6:

•    The ramp from I-71 North to I-64 East is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, May 6 for work on a barrier wall. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

•    One lane of I-64 East from I-65 to the merge with I-71 is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, May 6 for work on a barrier wall. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 7:

•    The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday, May 7-Saturday, May 10 for overhead bridge work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

•    One lane of I-64 East from 9th Street to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday, May 7-Saturday, May 10 for overhead bridge work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled for Thursday, May 8:

•    Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, May 8 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Work scheduled for Friday, May 9:

•    The ramp from I-65 North to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to close overnight Friday, May 9 for restriping. It’s expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

•    The ramp from Liberty Street/Preston Street/Muhammad Ali Boulevard to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Friday, May 9 for restriping. It’s expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

•    Two lanes of I-65 North from the Brook Street exit to the I-64 split are scheduled to close overnight Friday, May 9 for restriping. They’re expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Indiana Side:


Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 7:

•    Drivers on I-65 North taking Exit 0 into downtown Jeffersonville will not be able to turn left onto Court Avenue because of ongoing road work in the area. The change is expected to begin Wednesday, May 7 and last about two weeks. A signed detour will be in place.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

•    The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through the spring of 2016.

•    The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

•    Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.

•    7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.

•    VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.
                                                                                                     
•    US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.

•    US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane.  Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.

•    The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.

•    Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It’s expected to remain closed into July 2014.

•    Lane restrictions are in place on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane on US 31 South and US 31 North from just south of Court Avenue to the bridge. The restrictions are expected to be in place until mid-June, when the Clark Memorial Bridge is scheduled to close for about six weeks.

•    9th Street from Indiana Avenue to just west of I-65 is closed for storm sewer work. It’s expected to remain closed into May.


The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur. Also, given the aggressive overall construction schedule for the project, Walsh DBT may shift work schedules when opportunities arise.
