LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 21, 2014) – Residents can learn more about construction of the Downtown Crossing, including the new I-65 bridge and interstate approaches on both sides of the river, at an open house next week.

The open house is Thursday, March 27 from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at Mellwood Art Center. A presentation by project managers is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.

The open house will offer residents a chance to view displays, ask questions and hear a presentation highlighting work planned for this year.

Closures and Restrictions:

The following closures and lane restrictions are expected this week and next week in connection with construction on the Downtown Crossing:

Work Currently Underway:

Louisville Streets:

•    Adams Street from Campbell Street to Cabel Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, March 31, with access to local traffic only.

•    Witherspoon Street from River Road to Adams Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, March 24 for pile driving.

•    The left lane of Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street is scheduled to be closed through Tuesday, April 1 for bridge work.

•    The left lane and both parking lanes on Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Floyd Street are scheduled to be closed through Friday, April 11 for work in the area.


Work Scheduled for Next Week:

Kentucky Side:

Work scheduled for Monday, March 24:

•    The ramp from I-65 North to I-64 East is scheduled to close overnight Monday, March 24 for work on a temporary wall. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

•    One lane of I-64 East from 9th Street to just east of the I-71 North exit is scheduled to close overnight Monday, March 24 for work on a temporary wall. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Work scheduled for Tuesday, March 25:

•    One lane of I-64 East from 9th Street to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, March 25 for bridge work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Work scheduled for Thursday, March 27:

•    Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, March 27 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Louisville Streets:

Work scheduled for Tuesday, March 25:

•    Market Street from Preston Street to Floyd Street is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, March 25 to set beams. It’s expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

•    One lane of Market Street from Jackson Street to Hancock Street is scheduled to close Tuesday, March 25 and Wednesday, March 26 for work in the area.

Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, March 26:

•    Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday, March 26-Friday, April 11 to set beams. It’s expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

•    Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday, March 26-Friday, April 11 to set beams. It’s expected to close around 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

•    The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through the spring of 2016.

•    The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

•    Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.

•    7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.

•    VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.
   
•    US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.

•    US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane.  Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.

•    The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.

•    Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It’s expected to remain closed into July 2014.

•    Lane restrictions are in place on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane on US 31 South from just south of Court Avenue to the bridge. The southbound sidewalk is also closed. The restrictions are expected to be in place for several weeks.

The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur. Also, given the aggressive overall construction schedule for the project, Walsh DBT may shift work schedules when opportunities arise.
