Louisville, Ky. (NEWS RELEASE) - The following closures and lane restrictions are expected the rest of this week and next week in connection with construction on the Downtown Crossing:
 
Work Currently Underway:
 
Louisville Streets:

  • Frankfort Avenue between Story Avenue and River Road is scheduled to be closed through Tuesday, July 1 for work in the area. Local access will be available between Story Avenue and Washington Street.
  • Witherspoon Street from Adams Street to River Road is scheduled to be closed through Friday, June 27 for demolition work in the area. A signed detour will be in place.
  • Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Floyd Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 30 for bridge work and utility work. A signed detour will be in place.
  • Hancock Street from Main Street to Washington Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 30 for demolition work in the area. A signed detour will be in place.
  • One lane of Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 30 for bridge work and utility work.
  • One lane of Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 30 for bridge work.
  • Two lanes of Main Street between Hancock Street and Jackson Street are scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 30 for bridge work.
  • Two lanes of Market Street between Preston Street and Floyd Street are scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 30 for bridge work.

Kentucky Side:

 
Work scheduled to begin Friday, June 13:  

  • The ramp from I-64 West to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14 for pile driving. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days. A signed detour will be in place.
  • The ramp from Story Avenue to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Friday, June 13-Sunday, June 15 for pile driving and to prepare for a traffic switch. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.
  • Only one lane of I-64 West from the Story Avenue ramp to the I-65 split is scheduled to be open overnight Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14 for pile driving. Lane closures are expected to begin around 9 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. both days.
  • Work scheduled to begin Saturday, June 14:
  • The ramp from I-64 West to Mellwood Avenue is scheduled to close overnight Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15 to prepare for a traffic switch. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days. A signed detour will be in place.
  • One lane of I-64 West from just before the Mellwood Avenue exit to just past the Story Avenue ramp is scheduled to close overnight Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15 to prepare for a traffic switch. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days.

Work scheduled to begin Monday, June 16:

  • The ramp from I-64 West to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 16-Saturday, June 21 for pile driving. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.
  • The ramp from Story Avenue to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 16-Saturday, June 21 for pile driving. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.
  • Only one lane of I-64 West from the Story Avenue ramp to the I-65 split is scheduled to be open overnight Monday, June 16-Saturday, June 21 for pile driving. Lane closures are expected to begin around 9 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. each day.
  • One lane of the ramp from I-65 South to Jefferson Street is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 16-Thursday, June 19 for pavement work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.
  • One lane of I-64 East from the Story Avenue ramp to just past the Mellwood Avenue exit is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 16 to prepare for a traffic switch. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.
  • One lane of I-65 North from just past Brook Street to the Kennedy Bridge is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17 for work on a barrier wall. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days.
  • Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 17:
  • One lane of I-64 West from just before Mellwood Avenue to the I-71 overpass is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, June 17-Thursday, June 19 for work on a barrier wall. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.
  • Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, June 18:
  • One lane of I-64 East from the Story Avenue ramp to just past the Mellwood Avenue exit is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday, June 18 and Thursday, June 19 for work on a barrier wall. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by         5 a.m. each day.
  • Work scheduled for Thursday, June 19:
  • Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, June 19 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Work scheduled to begin Friday, June 20:
  • The ramp from I-65 South to Jefferson Street is scheduled to close overnight Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21 to prepare for a traffic switch. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days. A signed detour will be in place.
  • Work scheduled to begin Saturday, June 21:
  • One lane of I-65 South from the Kennedy Bridge to the Jefferson Street exit is scheduled to close overnight Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22 to prepare for a traffic switch. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days.


Louisville Streets:

 
Work scheduled to begin Monday, June 16:

  • Floyd Street from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Liberty Street is scheduled to close Monday, June 16-Tuesday, July 15 for bridge work. A signed detour will be in place.
  • Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, June 18:
  • Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street is scheduled to close Wednesday, June 18-Friday, June 20 for bridge work. A signed detour will be in place.


Kentucky Side:

  • The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15, 2013 and is expected to be closed through the spring of 2016.
  • I-65 North from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Witherspoon Street has been reduced from three through lanes of traffic to two, with the right lane a mandatory exit to Muhammad Ali Boulevard. The lane reduction is expected to continue into 2015.
  • The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15, 2013 and is expected to be closed through 2016.
  • Indiana Side:
  • Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.
  • 7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.
  • VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.                                                                                            
  • US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.
  • US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane.  Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.
  • The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.
  • Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It’s expected to remain closed into July 2014.
  • Lane restrictions are in place on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane on US 31-South and US 31-North from just south of Court Avenue to the bridge. The restrictions are expected to be in place until early July, when the Clark Memorial Bridge is scheduled to close for about six weeks.
  • 9th Street from Indiana Avenue to just west of I-65 is closed for setting beams and bridge work. It’s expected to reopen later this month.

The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur. Also, given the aggressive overall construction schedule for the project, Walsh DBT may shift work schedules when opportunities arise.
