LOUISVILLE, Ky. (News Release) -- The Clark Memorial Bridge, which connects downtown Louisville and Jeffersonville, Ind., is scheduled to close next spring for 30 to 45 days as part of the project to build a new downtown span.

"The exact date and the length of the closure is fluid, but project officials expect to shut the Clark in May 2014," said Mindy Peterson, spokeswoman for the downtown crossing.

The Clark, also called the Second Street Bridge because it extends across the river from Second Street in Louisville, carried 16,300 vehicles a day in 2011, according to the most recent estimates from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The Clark is one of three bridges between Louisville and Southern Indiana open to vehicle traffic, along with the Interstate 64 Sherman Minton and the I-65 Kennedy.
