LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Louisville Metro Police said four people were treated at University Hospital for gunshot wounds Tuesday afternoon.

Police surrounded the streets near Norton Hospital earlier in the day, where a shooting, hit and run and attempted carjacking came to an end.

LMPD said a shooting at 32nd Street and Virginia Avenue happened just before 1:30 p.m. Police were on the lookout for a suspect vehicle, a gray Chrysler, when the car in question ran a red light at Brook and Gray streets, just outside the hospital. The Chrysler slammed into a Nissan, driven by a 24-year-old who suffered non life-threatening injuries. She was transported to University Hospital.

The four people in the Chrysler fled the scene and continued driving until they stopped at the entrance of Norton’s emergency room.

“They did have a passenger that needed medical attention, so they dropped that person off for treatment and were leaving,“ Officer Carey Klain, LMPD public information officer, said.

The gunshot victim was later transported to University Hospital for treatment.

Tammy Boutiette was working a food truck outside Norton’s when she said she saw the three men attempt to hijack a white Impala.

“That car already had customers from my truck in it, so, when they jumped in the back seat, it didn’t look right. So we took to safety. Then I saw the driver and passenger bolt out of the car and cops were everywhere,” Boutiette said.

Officers detained all three men for questioning.

Just moments after detaining the men police received word three additional gunshot victims arrived at University Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police said they determined the  group was connected to Tuesday’s shooting on 32nd Street.

At this time, it is unclear what triggered the shooting or how many people were involved.

Police have not made any arrests in the case.
