LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS 11) -- Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for a stabbing in Southwest Louisville early Wednesday morning.
The stabbing took place just after 1 a.m. Wednesday. Police said someone called 911 when a fight broke out at a home in 6000 block of Dutchske Way. The victim, 19-year-old Dion Greene, was stabbed once and left the home. Police said Greene collapsed two blocks away from the home where the fight took place near the intersection of Flowervale and Lewis.
"It's not very often you see very many cops around here," Valley Station resident Gary Calhoun said.
Twenty-one-year-old Damien A. McLean III was arrested and is charged with 1st degree assault.
WHAS 11: "To hear someone got stabbed and there's bloody clothes on the street?"
Neighbor Jim Owens said: "Well that's kind of frightening in a way, we've not had any problems down here. It's a pretty quiet little street."
Homicide detectives walked along Lewis Way, talking to neighbors and gathering DNA samples.
"I mean we've got kindergartners that walk to school by themselves here," Calhoun said.
Police focused their attention on the house where the gathering happened, surrounded by police cruisers and evidence technicians. Soon people started leaving after speaking to officers.
WHAS 11 : "Can you tell us what happened?"
"No. I have no clue honestly," a young man leaving the house on Dutschke Road said.
WHAS 11: "Were you at the gathering?
"No comment," his family member said.
Greene was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery and is listed in critical condition. His family said he has a "50/50" chance of survival.
