(WHAS11)--The massive fire that scorched thousands of acres in northern California has been fully contained.

The "Rim" fire started on August 17th when a hunter in Yosemite National Park allowed an illegal fire to get out of control.

It was the third largest fire in state history, burning more than 257,000 acres and destroying nearly a dozen homes.

It cost more than 127 million dollars to fight the fire.
