LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A local animal rescue group is calling on tougher abuse laws after another case of animal cruelty.

"Miss Ellie" was brought to the Shamrock Arrow Fund in Louisville from Bell County, Ky. The yellow lab's entire tail was cut off and her back left leg was mauled.

Officials said this is just one of the several high profile abuse cases they've seen recently. Shamrock is asking the public to call police, animal control if the suspect animal abuse. The non-profit group is also urging the public to call lawmakers and tell them Kentucky needs stronger laws.

While “Miss Ellie” is expected to be OK, she will undergo surgery Tuesday to amputate her leg.

To report animal abuse in the Louisville area - call Metro Animal Services at 502-361-1318.
