LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — An 11-month-old boy is dead and three others were injured Wednesday night after a head-on collision on St. Andrews Church Road.
The crash happened around 10 p.m. in the 7400 block when police said the baby's mother was heading south on St. Andrews Church Road crossed over a median and hit a blue Honda head-on.
Police said a 22-year-old driving the Honda tried to avoid the the accident but was not able to and was injured. The mother and a 5-year-old boy in the car with her and the baby were also injured.
It is not clear if those injured were wearing seatbelts, but police said the baby was strapped into a carseat.
The female driver of the Honda and the mother were taken to University Hospital and the 5-year-old brother was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital. The baby died on the way to St. Mary's Hospital.
Police said the Honda driver and the 5-year-old are in critical condition, and the mother suffered non life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is underway to determine why the mother crossed over the median.
