(WHAS11)—There may be a new largest cat in the animal kingdom, with an interesting name.
When a tiger is crossbred with a lion, you get a liger, as made famous in the film “Napoleon Dynamite,” but what if you take one of those ligers and bred it with a lion?
The result is what is being called li-ligers. The cubs are the first in the U.S., born a few weeks ago in Oklahoma, but not the first in the world.
The first liliger, Kira, was born in a Siberian zoo back in August.
The breeders said no science was involved in the birth of these liligers, but it was natural, after the parents had been raised together from birth.
These new cubs could, based on genetics, be the largest cats ever seen, reaching upwards to 800 pounds.
