LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A woman is recovering after police say she was injured on an escalator at the Peddler’s Mall in Shively.

Police said the woman was riding on an escalator at the Dixie Peddler’s Mall when a door used for maintenance somehow opened and her leg fell through. The escalator continued to operate, trapping the woman's leg underneath.

EMS and fire crews responded and freed the woman after about an hour.

Management said they decided to close the mall early so maintenance could figure out what went wrong.

The woman was transported to the hospital and treated for her injuries. She is currently listed in fair condition at University Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
