JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) – Police are investigating an accident that killed a woman and injured two others after traffic was backed up near Seymour.

According to police, southbound traffic at I-65 was re-routed due to bridge problems. Police say drivers were detoured to U.S. 31 when a semi was stopped in traffic near County Road 50 North.

Police say 58-year-old Thomas Coomer was waiting to turn left and to go north on U.S. 31 when he was struck by a van also heading northbound.

Coomer’s wife, who was traveling in the vehicle with him, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Coomer and the driver of the van suffered minor injuries and were both transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
