MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) -- A Rowan County jury found Pam Bartley guilty of second-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of her husband of 38 years, Carl Bartley.
The Jeffersonville, Ky., man was found dead at his home in July 2007 with a single gunshot wound to the back of his head.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports defense attorneys tried to cast suspicion on Carl Bartley's mistress of five years. But Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Cynthia Gale Rose said Pam Bartley killed her husband because he was leaving her.
Pam Bartley had been charged with murder. Defense attorney Jim Lowery said the conviction on the lesser charge indicated the jury felt his client had "snapped," rather than plotted her husband's death.
The verdict came Thursday night. The jury recommended a sentence of eight years. Sentencing is Jan. 19.
