(WHAS11) -- An Indiana woman is helping her goddaughter go to college one penny at a time.
Faith Hammock who lives in Indianapolis started saving her pennies 15 years ago.
She has 500,000 pennies in the collection she calls "pennies from heaven," which translates into a $5,000 boost for Kyla Gilbert's college fund.
Kyla says she's grateful for the support.
"All this hard work that they've put into me, I had to put it into something else and show them that I'm a good student and they're doing, they're investing in me and they're investing in something good," said Gilbert.
Gilbert is heading to Indiana University in the fall and with the help of other scholarships, nearly all of her tuition is paid.
Gilbert says she'll use the money from her godmother to help with room and board.
