BEREA, Ky. (AP) -- Police in Berea have arrested a woman they say was fraudulently collecting money.
According to the Richmond Register, police said Amanda Griffey of Berea was arrested Tuesday for soliciting money that she claimed was for the family of Brookelyn Farthing -- a teen who has been missing since June 22.
A Berea Police Department affidavit stated the 21-year-old Griffey admitted she was not collecting money for the family and that she was not with a church, as she had told people she asked for donations.
Griffey was booked into the Madison County Detention Center on charges of identity theft and theft by deception. Police said she had collected at least $40.
