Winter Storm Warning until 7am Wednesday Bluegrass/Western KY Parkways - North (Including Metro)

Winter Weather Advisory until 7am Wednesday for Grayson, Larue, Green, Taylor, Marion and Washington Counties.

- Heaviest Precip ending after 1 am
- Wednesday AM: Freezing Drizzle or snow showers

- Dangerous or impossible driving in areas that receive ice accumulation

- Local power outages

- Miserable Morning Commute

Max HD Radar

The latest radar is showing moderate to heavy freezing rain for most of the area.  Often with heavy freezing rain we see a high run-off, meaning it doesn't have time to freeze on the roads or elevated surfaces.

Most areas around the Metro have already received between .20 to .25" of ice.  As the intensity decreases overnight we will start seeing those numbers climb.  Because of that reason I have increased our total ice accumulation for the Metro up to .50 to .60"

On the wide view we see a dry slot from AR to southwest IL.  However, I am concerned about some wrap around moisture tomorrow morning producing some freezing drizzle for the morning commute.

Seymour, IN

Meteorologist Kristin Walls has been in Seymour, IN all day.  The first picture was just before the 4pm news and by 6pm they had near white out conditions!

I just got off the phone with her and she is reporting they have gone from snow to freezing rain to sleet back to snow and now back to sleet and freezing rain!  This is one difficult Winter Storm!

Current Winter Storm Warning

Final Thoughts

This is a Very challenging forecast as areas just north and south of I-64 are on the line for freezing rain, sleet, snow and rain.  We will need to watch this hour by hour!  Farther north, snow accumulation of 3-7" possible north of a line from Madison to Paoli, Indiana.

Leftover freezing drizzle is a real possibility tomorrow morning.  This would add an additional glaze making the morning commute a nightmare.

Cold and dry Thursday in the 20s.  Chance for light snow Friday night-Saturday morning, then snow showers likely on Sunday. Accumulation likely.  Stay tuned... Winter is not done with us yet!
