LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- The West Buechel mayor has appointed a "person in charge" for the city's police department, while she considers candidates for a new chief.
Chief Jeff Manning's resignation took effect Friday, after months of clashing opinions with city officials.
For now, Sgt. Gary Sharp will manage the force. He's the same person the mayor tried to appoint as chief this week, but the city council voted against it Thursday night. A special meeting had been called the Tuesday before, but ended abruptly after a council member stated the meeting was illegal, noticing an addition to the night's agenda she'd signed before it made the page.
The mayor will accept applications for the job throughout the month. She'll then make another recommendation for chief the council will have to approve.
The West Buechel Police Department just resumed two years ago after it had shut down for a number of years.
