LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- The University of Louisville is still mourning the loss of Danielle ‘Dani’ Cogswell. The 22-year-old cheerleader was found dead in her Cardinal Towne apartment on Monday morning.

“Clearly as you've seen from the photographs that are circulating she was beautiful on the outside but that pales to her inner beauty,” head coach Todd Sharp said. “Our program is elite to begin, with but she was definitely an elite status within that elite program.”

A champion cheerleader from Seattle, Cogswell and her high school team won the Washington State championship in 2009. After graduating she went to school at Arizona State University before transferring to Louisville one year ago.

“The kids and I as well as the rest of the coaching staff are absolutely devastated to lose her,” Sharp said.

In a statement, the Director of Athletics Tom Jurich said: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and our heartfelt sympathies thoughts and prayers are with Dani's family and friends during this difficult time. Our university is aiding our students and staff to provide counseling services to those who knew her.”

Sharp said Dani has left a lasting impact on his life.

“Laughing remembering the great stories and the great times with Dani,” he said.
