LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Thousands gathered Saturday to watch graduates from the University of Louisville walk across the stage in their commencement ceremonies.

University officials say 1,700 took part in two ceremonies while 1,200 were candidates earned degrees during the spring 2014 semester.

President James Ramsey told students during the ceremony that great things happening at the university was because of them.

Famed car dealer Sam Swope was honored by university officials with an honorary degree.

Swope has been a longtime supporter of the university.
