LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)--  University of Louisville women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz is getting to do something he’s always wanted to.

Walz, who led the Lady Cards to the 2013 NCAA title game, defeating top ranked Baylor, is leaving for Colorado on Friday to be an assistant coach on the 2014 US U-18 women’s team.

He wasn’t sure how to do it, so be picked up the phone and began to make calls, now he is one of the assistant coachs.

The other coaches and Walz will evaluate the 28 players who accepted invitations to the camp, then they will trim the group to 12 for the roster.

The 2014 FIBA Americas Under 18 Championship begins on August 6th in Colorado Springs.
