(WHAS11) - Over the last few years gift cards have become the most popular last minute present for friends and family but what if the card is for a business that you're not interested in?
It's a plastic jungle out there, with gift cards for everything from your favorite ice cream shop to the salon where your grandmother gets her up do.
But what if you're allergic to fish and you get a gift card to Red Lobster?
What if you only watch movies on the big screen and someone gives you a Blockbuster card?
WHAS11 has discovered several web-sites that might be able to help you out.
There are others out there, but these are the three top web sites that people are using:
The first two, Plastic Jungle and Gift Card Rescue will give you cash for unwanted gift cards. They say on the site you can get up to 90% of the value of the card.
If you're looking to buy gift cards these could be good options as well. They advertize an average 30% savings for customers buying cards that other people turn in.
At Swap-a-Gift you can also get cash for cards or you can simply trade your unwanted card with another customer.
WHAS11’s Andy Treinen called the Better Business Bureau and they say Plastic Jungle is an accredited business. There is no report on Gift Card Rescue and one report on Swapagift.com
Their advice is to simply read the fine print on these deals and be careful!
Gift cards are a multi-billion dollar industry.
Analysts say about $87 billion in gift cards were sold last year, down from $91-billion in 2008.
