LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The source of several loud "booms" heard round Kentuckiana Monday night and early Tuesday morning was revealed Tuesday.
Fort Knox officials told WHAS11 News the booms are from Marine unit training and will continue through Wednesday night or Thursday. They said the training helps soldiers prepare for nighttime combat.
The loud noises caused hundreds of viewers to take the WHAS11 Facebook page, looking for answers. The noises were reportedly heard in Indiana and as far east as Oldham County. There were several reports in Jefferson and Bullitt counties.
The Bullitt County Sheriff’s Department asked people in the area to quit calling 911 about the loud booms they heard Monday night.
