BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WHAS11)-- Dreams were made on Thursday night in the Big Apple as professional basketball got its newest group of rookies.

Several Kentuckiana players were present at the draft, while others were at home.

The first pick went to the Cleveland Cavaliers who selected Andrew Wiggins, a Canadian who played his freshman year at Kansas.

Julius Randle, the forward on the national runner-up Kentucky Wildcats, was taken 7th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Shortly after Randle was selected the Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant tweeted to him, welcoming him 'home.'

Indiana Hoosier's star Noah Vonleh came off the board as the 9th overall pick by the Charlette Hornets. After his selection, former Hoosier Cody Zeller took to Twitter to welcome Vonleh to the Hornets.

Randle's teammate, James Young, a guard, was taken 17th overall by the Boston Celtics.

Russ Smith, the UofL star, was taken in the second round as the 47th overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. Shortly after the 76ers selected Smith, a trade was proposed to the New Orleans Pelicans for the rights to Pierre Jackson, a D-league star. The NBA must approve the trade before it is official.
