BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- The federal trial has begun for a Kentucky sheriff and two other law enforcement officials facing charges involving alleged unnecessary force during the arrest of a drug suspect.
The Glasgow Daily Times reports 14 jurors were selected in U.S. District Court on Monday to hear evidence in the trial, which is expected to last up to two weeks.
Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton, deputy Aaron Bennett and Barren-Edmonson Drug Task Force detective Eric Guffey are charged with deprivation of rights under color of law, making false statements to federal investigators, witness tampering, falsification of a document and destruction of a record, document or tangible object.
The charges stem from the arrest in 2010 of Billy Randall Stinnett.
The law enforcement officers have denied wrong-doing.
