LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAs11) -- Grilled cheese and tomato soup restaurant "Tom and Chee" is celebrating its one year anniversary Thursday and a lot has changed for the franchise since two locations opened in Louisville.

“We now have more than 70 employees and growing... we are proof the American dream is still alive.
We know with your help we will be the next big thing,” Tom and Chee creators said on ABC’s Shark Tank.

The creators of the Cincinnati-based chain appeared on Shark Tank over the weekend and asked for an investment from Mark Cuban and others.

They got $600,000 to develop their brand across the country. Two locations in Louisville, Bardstown Road and UofL’s campus, are the first and only franchises right now, but since the episode aired they said they've had more than 2,000 inquiries about opening other franchises.

The owner of the Louisville stores said it’s a simple concept that's catching on.

“You tell us the taste you have. If you like pizza, we have that. If you like bacon, we have bacon and blue cheese sandwich. You name the sandwich, we have over 25. Every day, we have over 25 different sandwiches,” Louisville franchise owner Richard Tinsley said.

A third location is under construction in St. Matthews. It is expected to open by July and Tinsley said he hopes to develop more locations in Louisville, Lexington, Frankfort and Southern Indiana.
