JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) – The Kentuckiana joint board of the Ohio River Bridges Project met Monday in Jeffersonville, Indiana to discuss more details of toll service providers, collections and other issues.
Will Wingfield of with the Indiana Deparment of Transportation says the tolling system will work under an umbrella of electronic toll collection.
The agency has received three separate procurements in place to get expertise from around the country to help navigate the project.
Louisville has not had tolling in several decades especially electronic tolling that allows crossing the bridges without having to make stops.
There are two transponder options for drivers with the first being a sticker.
“Depending on what kind of toll service they use, the least expensive one is a small sticker such as this, this is the Peach Pass from Atlanta. They use them and it's just a small sticker that you put on your windshield and that could basically be it, Wingfield said.
The second option for drivers is the E-Z pass which for motorists who travel to different parts of the country that have tolls. It’s universal and mostly used for broader travel.
