(WHAS11) -- A three-year-old girl was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after her grandmother says a car hit her.
“I was terrified,” said Linda Faulkner, the girl’s grandmother. “My heart is still beating fast as we speak.”
Faulkner says her granddaughter ran into the street and was struck by a red Chevy sedan near 12th and Hill Streets. Faulkner says the car kept going until Faulkner was able to catch up with the driver in her own vehicle and forced him to stop by pulling in front of him.
The driver told responding officers that he didn't realize he hit anybody. Police say there were no definitive injuries that indicated the girl was hit by a car. The young girl was alert and conscious when she was carried in the arms of an EMT to the ambulance. But, police say she did have minor scratches from the asphalt.
“They [police] said they have to get the information from the doctors because she doesn’t look as though she was ran over by his car,” said Faulkner.
The driver of the car is not facing any charges at this time.
Kosiar Children's Hospital officials say the little girl was discharged from the hospital later Sunday evening.
