LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The University of Louisville announced a big donation Tuesday toward the new academic center at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

Fuel giant Thornton’s has pledged $3 million to be used as a matching gift.

In return, the building would be called the Thornton’s Academic Center.

The building will feature areas for tutoring, labs, classrooms and office space.

Student athletes from all 23 sports will be able to use it every day.

“To be able to go into a league as prestigious as the ACC as far as academics and to be able to put this on top of it, the Thornton’s Academic Center will be unbelievable.

U of L hopes to begin construction in February or March but it all depends on fundraising efforts.
