Texas Senator Ted Cruz leads in latest straw poll

(WHAS11) – Texas Senator Ted Cruz pulled off an enormous win in a new straw poll taken during the weekend at a conference for social conservative activists.

The freshman senator captured 42 percent of the vote which is the highest percentage since the straw poll began in 2007.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, who’s won two previous straw polls, finished in fourth place.

Other top finishers were neurosurgeon Ben Carson, former Senator Rick Santorum and Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
