MILTON, Ky. (WHAS11) – After delays halted the sliding of the Milton-Madison Bridge on to its refurbished piers, a tentative date has now been set for the historic maneuver.
According to officials with the Milton-Madison Bridge Project, the rare sliding is scheduled to take place on April 9.
The project is estimated to take around 16 hours to complete.
The bridge was originally closed in early March after Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials said a steel bearing became dislodged between a pier and the bridge near the first land pier on the Milton, Kentucky side of the Ohio River.
A ferry has been providing transportation across the river for emergency vehicles while a private company has been transporting commuters.
No official date has been given for the bridge’s reopening.
