LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A local tennis team that knows the impact cancer can have held a tournament to help raise money for a cure.

The first ever "Refuse to Lose Tennis Championships" took place Sunday at the Tennis Club at Springhurst.

The tournament is named for a tennis team that Marshall Sample, a cancer survivor, belongs to.

Back in 2008, doctors found that Sample had golf ball-sized tumor growing in his brain.

During his chemotherapy treatments, Sample still played tennis with his team, which placed fifth in a nationwide tournament last year.

The team also held a dinner and auction Saturday night at the Hangar at Bowman Field that helped raise $20,000 for the V Foundation.
