LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Two fires in the Hikes Point area are being called suspicious by investigators and are linked to the same suspect believed to have set close to 40 fires since December 2012.
The fires broke out around 1 a.m. Thursday at an apartment complex on Silver Spring Drive and at a home on the 3000 block of Weather Way. The two fires were just a half a mile away from each other.
Major Henry Ott with the Metro Arson unit said the search for the suspect has been frustrating.
Ott said the suspect strikes between midnight and 5 a.m., and all the fires have been set around the Hikes Point area.
Typically, Ott said, the suspect sets fire to decorative wreaths on porches and front doors, but has also set fire to flags, phone books, hoses, even a motorcycle, in the past.
There were residents inside both the apartment unit and home where the fires were Thursday morning, but all were able to escape on their own while crews quickly put out the fires.
Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-26-ARSON. There is a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
