INDIANAPOLIS (WHAS11) – The surviving child of the New Albany fire that killed three of her siblings in early January has been placed on a ventilator.

5-year-old Tatyana Hughes had emergency surgery Monday morning and is still recovering at Riley Children’s Hospital with burns on her legs.

The details of the surgery is not known.

Police say Hughes’ three siblings died in a fire on Ealy Street when 18-year-old Cody Cashion fired a flare into the home where they were sleeping.

Cashion is now charged with murder.

Prosecutors say Cashion’s motive was a property dispute with a person who lived at the home but that he likely had no knowledge the children were inside.

Hughes’ family continues to ask for the community’s support as she struggles in the hospital.
