(WHAS11)—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is recommending that dams on the Green River be removed.
The dam, located near Mammoth Cave, has continued to deteriorate through the years. The river has been closed to navigational traffic for years.
A study said the removal of the dam would improve aquatic life and recreational activities on the river.
It also recommends getting rid of three other dams along the river, as well as the Barren River lock.
The Army Corps of Engineers are accepting comments on the proposal through next Monday.
