Students showcase their 'festive' Derby Festival artwork for contest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Area schools are showed off their original artwork for their favorite Kentucky Derby Festival events.

Judging for the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation Student Art Contest took place at Spalding University Tuesday morning.

The contest was open to all public, private and parochial school students in Jefferson and Oldham Counties as well as Clark and Floyd Counties in Indiana.

Some of the artwork included festival staples such as the Great Steamboat Race, the Great Balloon Race, the Pegasus Parade and others.

More than 400 entries were received for the contest.

The winners will be honored at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center in conjunction with the Republic Bank Parade Preview Party.
