LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – More than a million dollars in scholarship money was handed out to some standout students in our community.
The Chestnut Street Family YMCA’s Black Achievers Awards Celebration honored minority students as well as adults who were nominated by their corporations of civic groups.
The student dubbed “Youth Achiever of the Year” says the honor will help her pursue her dream of continuing her education.
“Once I obtain my goal, I’ll come back, speak to next generation of Black Achievers and let them know you can do exactly what me and the other achievers are doing,” Chloe Motley said.
“I think it speaks volumes that the city is supporting this program kids can fulfill their dreams to become young professions in our city and other cities,” Black Achievers volunteer Mechelle Porter said.
WHAS11’s Renee Murphy emceed the event.
