LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – On Wednesday, Aug. 13, many of the students attending Southern High School in Okolona were excited to return to class. Not because of the book work, but because of the hands on experience they will get in their vocational and magnet school classes.
“That’s the benefit of coming to Southern High School is that we actually have six career paths that students can take,” Principal Bryce Hibbard said.
Automotive Technology and the Class Act Program are two of the special courses designed to give students a boost in their career paths.
“Incredible. Its comfortable being around money and I like numbers,” senior and Class Act intern Kiana Proch said. “I’ve learned to deal with people.”
The Automotive Technology course is for those students who love cars.
Justin Belt is also a senior; he has dreams of opening his own shop one day and is confident the program will work in his favor.
“It’s not like doing hands on work in a lab work. It’s actually out here working with multiple people, working on a car and working with customers,” Belt said.
