LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) - - One of the nation's largest churches is celebrating 50 years of worship this weekend by announcing plans to expand in the Louisville community.

Southeast Christian Church has plans to open a third regional campus by next fall in Southwest Louisville.

The new church will be located on Saint Andrews Church Road.

Southeast is contracted to purchase 10 acres from Christian Academy Southwest, which is right next to the location where a new, 40,000 square foot church will be built.

Dave Stone, Senior Pastor of Southeast Christian Church, said “When we started this in 1998, we were running about 10,000 members. we thought that it would grow but we had no idea that it would grow to the numbers that it has, and now to be able to spread out to other, multi sites and campuses and regional campuses around the Kentuckiana area has been a real blessing, not for just the church, but hopefully the community would say the same thing”.

The southwest campus will have enough seating for 1,200 people, adult classrooms, a café, offices, and a nursery.

Construction will begin this fall and the church should be open by fall of 2013.

Southeast Christian Church is one of the largest churches in the nation. It has an average weekly attendance of more than 21,000 people.
