SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- The Shepherdsville Police Department is investigating an arson in the 100 block of Sara Way.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Shepherdsville Police and units from the Shepherdsville and Zoneton Fire Departments responded to a report of a structure fire inside an apartment building.

Police say someone set a fire in the stairwell, and wrote a threatening message on Dustin Baxter's apartment door.

"There was a letter to one of my family members directly saying that they were going to harm them," said Dustin Baxter.  "We just had some other problems in the past, we're pretty sure its the same people doing the same."

Baxter says the fire woke him up and as soon as he got his wife and kids out of the building he put the flames out with a fire extinguisher.

"I'm a dad," said Baxter.  "I got four kids total. I just protect my family the best I can. Times are hard and people are getting crazier these days and i would never imagine this would happen to me.  You hear about these things, but never thought i'd be living it."

Baxter says this isn't the first violent threat he and his family have recieved.

Shepherdsville police are currently investigating persons of interest, but are requesting anyone with any additional information to contact the Shepherdsville Police Department at (502) 957-1001, (502) 921-1000 or the anonymous tip line at (502) 215-1588.
