LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- WHAS11 has learned that Louisville Metro Police have launched a criminal investigation into Metro Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin.
Earlier this month we reported police were taking a closer look at how Shanklin handled the finances of her office. On Wednesday a police spokesman confirmed that the public integrity unit launched an official criminal investigation.
Shanklin is under fire about money used for a program that benefited her family. There are also questions about her grandson who worked in her office and how he was paid while he was incarcerated.
We were referred to Shanklin's attorney when we tried contacting her. He has not gotten back in touch with us.
