Laconia girl, sailor killed and infant injured in Harrison Co crash

HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Emergency crews responded to a fatal accident on Interstate 64 in Harrison County, Ind. Tuesday morning.

That accident happened around 9 a.m. Thursday near mile marker 106.

Police said a Navy serviceman based in Virginia was driving his Nissan westbound and, for unknown reasons, crossed the median. The Nissan was t-boned by a SUV carrying a grandmother, a mother and her two children.  

Two-year-old Merissa Summer was killed and her 11-month-old sibling was critically injured. The sailor driving the Nissan was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The children's grandmother, who was driving the SUV, and their mother, Kayla Yeager of Laconia, were not injured. 

The 11-month-old child was flown to Kosair Children's Hospital.

The name of the Navy serviceman has not released.
