(WHAS11) An exhaustive nine-day search for the body of 18-year-old Andrew Compton at a Southern Indiana landfill is now over.
Rumpke Consolidated Companies operates the Medora landfill and issued a statement Friday night, saying that after excavating more than 5,000 tons of trash, authorities are calling off the search.
Police said they are still following leads in the investigation.
Earlier Friday, 40-year-old Greg O’Bryan was in a Louisville courtroom indicted on charges of murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. Prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty against him.
O’Bryan told police that Compton died while the two were having sex. The indictment alleges O’Bryan kept the body for two days before putting it in a dumpster.
