NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A man is under arrest after police had part of New Albany on lockdown for hours Friday morning.
A SWAT team swarmed the neighborhood as a domestic fight escalated at a home on Greenaway Place.
"It took a while to get somebody to come to the door," Maj. Keith Whitlow with the New Albany Police Department said.
There were reports of shots fired inside a house on Greenaway Place and that sent neighbor, Mark Monyhan, and others into a frenzy.
"I was coming home and I got stopped by a police officer with a weapon in his hand so something is really serious down there," Monyhan said.
A woman and a baby walked out of the house safely. Followed by a man who police said barricaded the trio inside for hours after firing shots. Nobody was hurt and the man gave up peacefully, but it blocked off several streets for hours.
"Everyone in the house is going to be interviewed by detectives at that point we're going to make a determination what charges are going to be filed," Whitlow said.
S. Ellen Jones Elementary School, located a few blocks away, was on lockdown as a safety precaution. Everything is now back to normal.
