LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Louisville Metro Police Department's SWAT Unit was called to an apartment home in the 1300 block of Ormsby Wednesday night after a report of a domestic situation.

Police said a woman who lives in one of the apartments with 59-year-old George Jones called 911 around 9:30 p.m. and told dispatchers she was beaten and had black eyes. Officers responded to the scene and when they arrived they said they heard screams coming from a basement level apartment.

Police tried to enter the apartment to help the woman, but said Jones would not open the door. Police were in contact with Jones, but said he refused to leave the house. That's when the SWAT Unit was called in to handle the situation.

"The individuals inside claimed that he did have a weapon inside. We backed out at that point and called our SWAT team and negotiating team in," Dwight Mitchell, LMPD public information officer, said.

Police said the couple began arguing when Jones refused to buy the woman more alcohol. Police also said the woman was not seriously injured and there was no physical abuse.

The situation did end peacefully after about two hours and Jones was taken into custody. He is charged with unlawful imprisonment.
