LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A robocall scam targeting people in Kentuckiana appears to have come to a stop after the Federal Trade Commission stepped in.
Dozens of people across the area reported to the Better Business Bureau about getting calls on their cell phones and landlines.
Individuals also received text messages claiming there was an issue regarding their Stock Yards Bank debit card.
The number where the calls originated has been disconnected and callers have been prompted with this message:
“The telephone number you have just called has been disconnected because it may be involved in a scam you may have gotten this through email, text or a voice mail message, but no matter how real it may seem that message was a trick."
The Better Business Bureau says when a bank calls they will almost never ask you for your information and they will never use a computer to call you, only actual representatives.
Stock Yards Bank, which is locally owned, was not making the calls.
They say the robocalls were targeting the 502 area code whether you were Stock Yards customers or not.
The scammers were trying to obtain debit card and pin numbers along with the expiration date.
