(WHAS11)  Some residents in the Lyndon neighborhood are upset over what their neighbor hung from a tree in his front yard.

Neighbors said they are concerned about the message a confederate flag sends to anyone who drives through the community on Farnham Drive in Lyndon.

The flag was hung from the tree Saturday and many people nearby began to complain. Metro police were even called to the street because of the ruckus it was creating.

WHAS11 News approached the owner of the house and asked him about it and he said he’s from the south and the flag represents his culture.  He said he has no plans to take it down.

Residents we spoke with are concerned about the image it gives their neighborhood.

Melinda Basquez, a neighbor, said “I‘m shocked and I am surprised to even see those kinds of flags hung in our neighborhood, especially directly across the street.”

The owner of the home said he plans to put up an even bigger confederate flag.
