A horse rescue team in Nelson County claims a public official had dozens of starved horses on his property for weeks.

And it all started when Harris Horse Rescue emailed WHAS11 a YouTube video of roughly 20 horses in Bloomfield Kentucky, some malnourished and looking very thin.

"They were in horrible condition and with them being that emaciated and visibly being sick it was life-threatening to every horse on this lot," said Charlene Harris, Harris Horse Rescue.

"You don't see it and don't think about it unless those videos got out and saw what was really happening. A lot more people got involved," said Lisa McCullough, who captured the YouTube video.

Problem is, Harris Horse Rescue in Nelson County says the lot at the 3200 block of Wilkerson Road belongs to their County Magistrate, Jerry Hahn.

So, when WHAS11’s Gene Kang drove out to Nelson County and showed up at the Magistrate's lot, he found that all the horses are missing, nowhere to be found.

So where are all the horses?

A shock to Harris who claims they were there just Tuesday night, she says these pictures and video links started pouring into her rescue the past weeks.

Harris tells us the magistrate never returned her phone calls trying to alert him of the dire conditions.

"These horses being as emaciated as they were, they will end up going to slaughter, slaughter-bound to Canada," said Harris.

Hahn was outspoken and exclaims he has nothing to hide.

In fact, he showed us his own horses just down the street from the lot.

Hahn says the starved horses in the YouTube video were from a stockyard and claims he was only keeping them for an associate in Hardin County where they've returned.  He says he was trying to nurse the horses back to health after getting them from a sale barn and has since taken them back.

"All I was doing was trying to save the horses lives. That's all I was doing," said Hahn.

"I talked to our county judge and everything I talked to them in Frankfort. I wasn't doing anything wrong."

"It's sickening that anyone can get away with this let alone an elected official. He should've been setting an example for everyone else," said Harris.

The Harris Horse Rescue says officials in Nelson County never took legal action against Magistrate Hahn despite knowing about the situation.

So, why weren't the horses removed from the property by a humane society and the owner served with a warrant? I don't care who he is, if they do something like this they should pay for what they did. You do something wrong you should be punished, no questioned asked. There should be an investigation, questions should be asked and he should appear before a judge. Where I live I hear of animals being killed, tortured, shot, poisoned and neglected. I can't do anything about it legally because we have nothing but a kill shelter here, a pound that takes strays and kills them when they don't find a home, no humane society.

The horses were moved quickly after we all started causing such a fuss with Dean Watts County Judge Executive and Jim Hahn, Magristrate. They have been taken to: Buck Ryan's place : 2592 Blueball Rd, Rineyville, KY 40162 Now they are probably headed to an even worse place! Please someone step up .... and ... help stop this in Nelson County!

Wow. And this bumbling buffoon was elected? Talk about the good-old-boys coverup network. If that were ANYONE else, those horses would have been seized and charges filed THAT DAY.

He sure looked like he was lying. If he wasn't doing anything wrong then why did he move the horses? He may have friends in high places who cover up for him, and he may have the respect an elected official sometime gets, and he may even think there's nothing wrong with abusing an animal, but the people in our democratic society can make sure he never gets elected again. He may think that because he wasn't hitting the horses over the head with a baseball bat he wasn't abusing them, but failure to provide food, water and appropriate healthcare is abuse. This should be a crime and he should be punished for committing crime. If indeed higher up officials are covering up for him and it is business as usual in Nelson County then the residents of Nelson County need to clean house.

Get the media involved. Sometimes the local SPCA or animal control are only as good as their employees. They answer to no one and they cover up for a person that sucks up to them. We have the same problem here. One owner can have her horses seized in good shape while the other owner is allowed to keep her emaciated horses just because she is a good con artist. Magazine article with pictures also help. Also posters can be placed where the public can see them. The more local people find out the better. Many just drive by and never pay any attention or else the horses can be kept out of site of the public. Good luck and don't give up.

i can see why people just ignore a wreck or other things that happen in our great country because of freaks like these people. jerry hahn has been caring and rehabiliting animals for years. you do gooders send some money to him and he will hopefully continue. i have milked cows in more shit than you show on u tube. harris and whas both should apologize for this inaccurate reporting demeaning mr hahn s reputation. makes me shake my head that folks like you stick your nose into other folks business when they are trying to do a good deed. get a life

Do any of you people personally know this guy? Didn't think so. You all need to mind your own business and not worry about what other people do......
